Oliver D. "Dave" Majure, 83, of Leawood, died Friday at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Mr. Majure, artist and wiseacre, was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Newton, Mississippi, to K.D. and Edna (Nicholson) Majure. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He married Betty Lou Tucker on May 24, 1947; she died May 15, 1990. Mr. Majure earned a BFA in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. His career was as a graphic designer and direct-mail marketing consultant, but his vocation was visual art, especially painting. On May 2, 1992, he married Joyce B. "Jeff" Majure; they divorced in 1999 but rejoined each other as loving companions in 2005.
Mr. Majure was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Marshall, Edwin, Albert and Robin. He is survived by daughters Susan Gandy, Olathe; Joyce Majure, Lewiston, Idaho; Janet Majure and Lori Hutfles, both of Lawrence; companion Jeff Majure of the home; sisters Mildred Martin, LaMarque, Texas, and Mary Stark, Springville, Calif.; eight grandchildren and three sons-in-law. The family suggests memorials to the Kansas City Art Institute, sent in care of the funeral home.
