Norman Charles Burke, 71 of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He was born on November 12, 1949 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Roland and Ernestine (Herda) Burke.
Norm grew up in Oscoda, Michigan with his sister and 6 brothers. He met his wife Jackie in High School and they were married 3 years later on January 24, 1970. High School sweethearts!!
Their first daughter, Amber, was born May 1976 and their second daughter, Traci, was born October 1979. The family moved around Michigan and then to Sandy, Utah in January 1983. In 1984 they moved to Stilwell, KS and decided this was home.
Norm worked in the soft-drink industry most of his life, starting as a delivery truck driver. After years of hard work, along with 6 other partners, Norm acquired Mid-Continent Bottlers, owning the company for over a decade. In January 1998, they sold the company and Norm retired to begin a new career as
a developer. He loved this work and excelled at it. He built everything including homes, condominiums, and commercial centers. He also loved to golf, fish, and have fun with family and friends. Norm was a loving, patient, awesome husband and father and will be missed by all. Norm believed NOTHING was more important than FAMILY!
Norm is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jacqueline Burke; daughters Amber Grider and Traci Turner; grandchildren Devon and Riley Grider, and Mya and Abbie Turner; siblings John, Dick, Tim, and George Burke.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Roland and Jerry Burke and his sister, Jean Ross.
Funeral service for Norm will be held at ll:00 am on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Advent Lutheran Church, 11800 W. 151st Street, Olathe, KS. We will have a Visitation at 10:30 am and a Celebration of Life party/lunch following the service at The Martin, 13440 Holmes Rd KC MO 64145.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Norman's memory be given to the American Heart Association or to Amber's Antibodies, a charitable organization started by Norm's daughter with a mission of fighting cancer one "body" at a time.
