Norma Jean McCorkendale, 79, of Stilwell, passed away on March 28, 2018 in Overland Park. She was born on December 26, 1938 to Louis and Alice (Miller) Grigsby in Oxford, Ks. She grew up in Stanley, Ks. She met her husband Gene McCorkendale in Stanley, who she later married in 1957 and started their family. She is known to those who loved her as Nornie, Aunt Nornie, Grandma Nornie and Grandma. Gene and Norma lived most of their lives in Stanley where they started their business, McCorkendale Construction together. She loved cooking for everyone who stopped by, her passion and joy were making quilts, afghans and sewing and then gifting them to others. From the time Norma met you, you were welcomed with open arms and always considered part of the family. Later in life, she and Gene loved spending the cold months in Arizona where they loved to go and see friends they had made over the years there.
Norma is survived by her loving husband, Gene McCorkendale; children Sheryl (Brett) Clanton and Daryl (Dawn Clifford-fiancé) McCorkendale, four grandchildren, Bailey Clanton, Jullian McCorkendale, Cole (Allyson Ottensmeier-fiancé) Clanton and Cameron McCorkendale, one brother, Walt Grisgby. Norma was proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Jackson.
A visitation is set for Tuesday, April 3rd at 10 a.m., with funeral services set for noon at Penwell-Gabel – Olathe-Chapel, 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062. Burial will take place following the funeral services at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 9501 159th St, Overland Park, KS 66221.
