Norma Maurer, 82, passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2019 in Lenexa, KS with family by her side. She was born to Walker and Grace Barron in 1937 and had one older sister, Virginia Clark (deceased).
Tulsa, OK was Norma's birthplace and in 1957 she married Don Maurer. During their life together, Don's work as a banker took them to Omaha NE, Independence KS, Cherokee Village AR, and Branson MO. Norma and Don enjoyed traveling and took many wonderful trips to exotic locations. She was outgoing, vivacious, and loved to embrace the different locales. Hawaii may have been her favorite vacation spot, though a trip through the Panama Canal brought her much joy, as did the beautiful Bahamas.
Playing the viola in the Omaha Orchestra was one of Norma's most treasured memories. She was also a gifted piano player and a special highlight was being the accompanist for a small theater in Cherokee Village. Norma spent all of her life taking care of her home and family, while also volunteering for various organizations where she could use her musical talents.
Norma is survived by four children, Cindi (Dale) Lutter, Kathy (Ken) Harvey, Jenny (Bill) Blaker, and John (Stephanie) Maurer, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Norma will be remembered for her hair color (she had many), her musical talents, having a green thumb, and living an independent life on her own terms.
