Nola Dean Fogo

August 7, 1929 — May 29, 2018

Nola Dean Fogo, 88, of Platte City, Missouri, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Nola Dean Buckow was born on August 7, 1929, to Alma Margaret (Wrage) and Emil Hans Carl Buckow near St. Libory, Nebraska. Her family relocated to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1940, and she graduated from high school there in 1947.

Nola attended Bethany Nazarene College for a year, eventually relocating to Kansas City, Missouri. She worked in several clerical positions, and as a receptionist at the Nazarene Publishing House. She met William (Joe) Fogo in 1955 and they wed on November 8, 1958. A daughter, Janice, was born to Nola and Joe in 1960. After relocating to Davenport, Iowa, their daughter, Sherryl (Sherry) was born in 1964. In 1966, the family re-located to Des Moines, Iowa, and eventually moved near Altoona, Iowa. They were residents of Iowa for 35 years.

Nola spent many years at home helping to raise her daughters. Sherry's diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2 presented quite a health challenge. Eventually Sherry developed serious complications, and in 1997, passed away from a heart attack.

Joe and Nola relocated to Olathe, Kansas in 1998, where they became active members of College Church of the Nazarene. They traveled some, spent time with their grandchildren, and enjoyed wonderful worship and fellowship with friends from their church family. Nola proclaimed these to be some of the best years of her life.

Her love for Jesus was what Nola would want us to remember about her more than anything. She made the statement that as a teenager her mom was the best Christian she knew. Because of her mom's influence and prayers, she came to know Him in her young adult years, and spent many hours on her knees praying for her family and for lost people. She left a legacy of being a true prayer warrior.

Nola is survived by her loving husband, Joe; daughter, Janice (Mark) Means; brother, Stanley (Karen) Buckow; grandchildren, Ryan (Rebekah) and Tiffany; and great-granddaughter, Naomi.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Sherryl.
