Nicole was born in Orange City, Iowa on Tuesday, April 20th, 1976 to Thomas and Sharon (Galles) Harpenau. As the 5th of 7 children she was born into a busy, noisy household. She was very studious and was by all accounts the smartest of those 7 children. Nicole graduated from Rogers High School in Rogers, AR but her heart belonged to Spalding Catholic High School in Granville, Iowa. Her college years included the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Management Information Systems and marriage to Thomas Ryan Storey, on June 7th, 1997.
Tom and Nicole welcomed two sons, Trevor and Ryan, while living in Iowa, before settling permanently in Olathe, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. Kansas City brought her closer to most of her siblings and more importantly brought her Kayla to complete their family of five. She was an IT Analyst for Principal Financial for 24 years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and she enjoyed being a spectator at her kids' activities, reading fiction, going to the movies, playing cards and really any game, and all time spent with her husband, family and friends. She was a rule follower but also fun to be around and had the best sense of humor.
Nicole was diagnosed with cancer 6 years ago. She inspired us by her strength, courage and bravery throughout her battle. She endured so much and never complained.
Nicole is survived by her loving husband, Thomas, their children, Trevor(special friend, Jordan), Ryan(special friend, Ellie) and Kayla, her parents, Thomas and Sharon Harpenau, Alton, IA, siblings, Jeff Harpenau(Kathy) Kansas City, MO, Sheila Thelen(Tony), West Okoboji, IA, Melissa Heying(Dean) Overland Park, KS, Gina Diggs(Shaun) Olathe, KS, Crystal Bauer(Robert) Prairie Village, KS, Leah Murphy(Michael) Sheldon, IA.
