Nettie "Ruth" Clerc

January 5, 1932 — May 2, 2017

Nettie "Ruth" Shearrer Clerc, age 85, passed into her heavenly home on May 2, 2017.

Ruth was born January 5, 1932 in Patterson, MO to A.O. and Edith Shearrer. Her father was a pastor, and their family lived in several small southeast Missouri towns. She graduated from Iberia High School in 1949, and then attended Iberia Junior College for two years graduating in 1951, teaching in a one-room school house her first year.

Ruth then attended Olivet Nazarene College (University) in Bourbonnais, IL, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. Her family moved to St. Louis, MO while she was attending Olivet, and that was where she began her teaching career in elementary education.

It was in St. Louis that she met Harold Clerc, and they were married December 21, 1957. She taught school for many years, taking a short leave to stay at home with their two daughters.

Ruth retired from teaching in 1994 after investing in the lives of many students. She was an active member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Florissant, MO until they moved to Olathe in 2003, where they became members of College Church of the Nazarene.

Ruth and Harold enjoyed traveling and church activities, but nothing gave her greater joy than her family, both immediate and extended. She was a great story-teller, and told the best bed-time stories to her grandchildren. She was blessed with many artistic gifts, and in her earlier years, enjoyed painting.

Surviving are her daughters Laura (John) Tader and Kara (Dan) Pope, grandchildren Steven (Samantha ) Tader, Elizabeth (Tanner ) Stevens, Rebecca (Jordan) Seifert, Lauren Pope, Ashley Pope, Emily Pope and Katelyn Pope, five great-grandchildren, siblings Alma Kelley, Don (Sheri) Shearrer, and Noni (Spence) Hedrick, sisters-in-law, Shirley Marquart and Carol Shearrer, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.O. and Edith Shearrer, her husband Harold Clerc, sister Betty Voss, brother Bill Shearrer, brothers-in-law Hugh Voss, Bennie Kelley, Melvin Karr, Bob Marquart and sister-in-law Jeanie Karr.

Memorials are suggested to Nazarene Missions International, 17001 Prairie Star Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66220.
