Nelson A. Mongkhonvilay, 25, of Gardner, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2021 at Olathe Medical Center. He was born on November 16, 1995 in Merriam, KS, graduated from Olathe South High School, and proudly worked as an IT Representative in customer service for Sunlighten Sauna company.
Nelson had a positive impact on countless people, living his life based on kindness, compassion and the strong morals taught by his mother and father. He was a dedicated father, son, brother, and partner to his fiance Megan. His love was unconditional for all his family and many friends who adored his witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his fiance Megan Livengood and their beautiful twins Milo and Milliana, his loving parents, Leuth and Pauline (Manivong) Mongkhonvilay and future parents-in-law Randy and Heather Livengood, brother Justin and sister-in-law Lisbeth, nephew Siah, half brother James, future brother and sister-in law, Tyler and Hailey Livengood, grandmother Dalouny Manivong, and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
When asked who his best friends were, his answer was family. Nelson adored caring for his kids and living life with Megan, and he had an unbreakable bond with older brother Justin, who was known as Player 1 in the game called life, while Nelson was Player 2, terms that demonstrated they were a team no matter what. Justin's wife Lisbeth became the sister he never had, and Nelson's nickname for his nephew Siah was Chunkers, whom he adored as his own.
Nelson's interests and talents were varied. His cooking skills were known for their creativity, using any ingredient he could find in the kitchen, creating amazing meals he loved sharing with Megan and the entire family, from perfectly cooked steak and pho, to his best dish: egg rolls. He was also a talented gamer, having first been introduced when his father got him a Nintendo 64. His favorites were Halo, Fallout, and Skyrim. His artistic side showed through his love of anime, Kamisama Kiss and Death Note his favorites, a wide range of music from heavy metal to electronic, and even dancing with Megan and their twins when he introduced them to Bounce Patrol so they could play and dance to the rhythm of nursery rhymes. Nelson also had an avid interest in studying a range of firearms, understanding the intricacies of each and identifying many gun models and their varied rounds.
Nelson was preceded in death by his grandfather, Colonel Nhanh Manivong. Nelson will be greatly missed, forever loved and always remembered for his strong and nurturing spirit, which lives on through his children.
