A funeral service for Jean Prater, age 80 of Olathe, KS, will be Thursday, Aug 30, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob, Olathe, KS. Burial will follow at 3:30pm in the Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, MO. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug 29, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, also in the chapel of the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Music Ministry at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 11100 College Blvd, Overland Park, KS 66210 or the American Diabetes Association.
Jean passed away on Saturday, Aug 25, 2012 at Olathe Medical Center. She was born on Mar 18, 1932 in Vienna, MO to Don and Murle Hefti. Jean was united in marriage to Earl Prater on June 3, 1951, and was employed with GASCOSAGE Electric Co-op in Dixon, MO for over 40 years. She attended church faithfully, teaching children's Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Dixon, MO, and was an active member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class at University Heights Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Upon moving to Kansas City area in 2007, she became a member of the Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Overland Park, and was an active resident of Aberdeen Village in Olathe, KS.

She is survived by her son, Mike Prater and his wife Tammy, and Darryl Prater and his wife Rebecca, grandchildren Nate and his wife Julie, Kristen and her husband Corey, Christy and her husband Neal, Lance, Kelli, Jake and Daniel, all of the Kansas City area, and four great-grand-daughters Mackenzie, Alivia, Maddison, and Allyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 2008.
