Nancy Kay Olson, 65, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, June 6, 2012. She was born Nancy Kay Proffitt, Aug. 15, 1946 in Lincoln, NE, to Blaine and Julia Proffitt. Nancy continued to live in Lincoln, NE, throughout her childhood and early education. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1964. Nancy pursued her undergraduate studies at Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, OK, where she earned a degree in 1967. She later completed coursework at Kansas State University, earning a Master's degree in Education.
The entire Proffitt family, including Nancy, was actively involved in various ministries and worshipped at Lincoln First Church of the Nazarene in Lincoln, NE. It was through fellowship at the church where Nancy met her childhood sweetheart, Harold Olson, who also worshipped with his family. Several years later, Lincoln First Church served as the site where Harold and Nancy were married on Aug. 4, 1967. The church served as the foundation for their marriage--and Nancy remained totally committed to Jesus Christ, along with the Nazarene Church throughout her life.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend. She cherished her family and friends above all else. She was committed to serving others--impacting countless people throughout her life.
Education was Nancy's passion. She was a teacher to the very core. Her entire professional career was dedicated to others. This passion, however, did not halt with the ringing of the bell at the end of each school day--it encompassed her life.
Her first appointment as a young teacher was within the Hickman Mills School District, where she remained for several years--until later pursuing an opportunity in Olathe, KS. She was employed with Olathe District Schools for the vast majority of her of her teaching career and earned retirement in 2005.
Nancy was preceded in death by Harold Olson, her only true love, best friend, and husband, in 2002.
Nancy is survived each of her three children and spouses; Heath and Angie Olson, Heather and Thad Cole, all of Olathe, Kansas; Hunter and Christy Olson, of Gardner, KS; her beloved grand-children, Parker Olson, Samantha Olson, Presley Olson, Wilson Cole, and Meredith (Nikki) Patty; her siblings Ron Proffitt, Nampa, ID, Steve Proffitt, Springfield, MO, and Julie Taylor, Olathe, KS.
