Nancy Joyce Murray

April 29, 1939 — January 28, 2024

Nancy Joyce Chasin Murray, 84, of Olathe, passed away on January 28, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 29, 1939 to Joseph and Joyce (Molesworth) Pinkham in Washington, DC.
She spent the first 13 years of her life living in various towns along the east coast. She found her way to Kansas when her dad's job moved them to the land of cowboys and Indians. To her surprise, Kansas looked similar to the states on the east coast. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1957.

Nancy was married to Wayne E. Murray from December 1963 – January 2007. Together, they had three daughters. When the girls were young, Nancy was a Girl Scout leader where she enjoyed leading campouts and teaching first aid and survival skills to the young girls. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker until all her kids were in school. Nancy was employed as an attendance secretary at Oregon Trail (Olathe Public Schools) for over 25 years.

Nancy loved the outdoors which included camping, gardening, swimming and sunbathing. She participated in bowling teams and square dancing clubs as well as a member of the CB club. She loved hosting dinner parties and Halloween parties. She also enjoyed canning, dancing, collecting hats, shopping, decorating for all the holidays and traveling.

In her later years, she enjoyed teaching Silver Sneakers, playing cards and dominoes at the YMCA and at her apartment clubhouse. She was an avid Chief's fan, writing down all the games and their scores.

She loved to brag about her daughters and her grandchildren. She loved being a Gigi.

She was a member of The Olathe Trail Riders and The Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was also a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church since her teenage years, when it was a red brick building on the corner of Cherry and Loula. Throughout her time at church, she was an usher and communion server. She participated in many Bible Study classes, always asking the hard questions. She participated in the Christian Gathering Sunday School class where she made many friends.

Nancy is survived by her daughters Tammy Wetter (Keith) and Teresa Murray Posey (Christi), grandchildren Christina Matthews (Jason), Jeff Harralson, Austin Harralson (Samantha Luker), Luke Wetter (Olivia Roberts), and Kyle Wetter, great-grandchildren Emma Matthews, Parker Matthews, Tucker Harralson, Colton and Kaysn Luker, her brother, Joe Chasin (DeDe) and her partner, John Allen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Jack Chasin, her father, Joseph, and daughter, Tina Murray Bradford.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or to Grace United Methodist Church.
