Nancy Alling Smith
April 28, 1925 — February 20, 2016
Nancy was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1925 to Carlos Alling and Helen Metcalf Alling. She attended University of Chicago Elementary & High School, graduating from Miss Faulkner's School in 1942. She attended Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, NY and DePauw University in Greencastle, IN where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 at Claridge Court in Prairie Village.
Nancy married Lawrence E. Smith, III in 1946 and resided in Kansas City the remainder of her life. She also has a residence at Mountain Lake in Lake Wales, FL, where she enjoyed spending the winters with her husband until his passing in 2002. She was a Trustee of the Conservatory of Music, Board Member of the Women's Missouri Golf Assn., member of the Children's Relief Association of Chicago, the Country Club District Golf Association, the US Senior Women's Golf Assn. the St. Luke's Hospital Women's Auxiliary, the Junior League of Kansas City Missouri, the Kansas City Country Club and the Village Presbyterian Church.
Nancy was an avid tennis and golf player, winning the KCCC women's golf championship 14 times and the Mountain Lake women's golf championship 10 times. Nancy was a very devoted mother and grandmother to her 3 sons, 2 daughters-in-law and 7 grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her children, son Les and wife Cacki, son Greg and wife Sandee, son Brad, grandchildren Brandon, Paige (Chris) Bennish, Kelley (Cole) Horigan, Kristen, Barrett, Gordon, Tyler, great-grandchildren Hudson, Harrison, Walker , Bodie and her sister Virginia "Ginny" Bethke of Concord, MA.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Nancy's name to the charity of your choice.
