Nadine LaVaun (Eastland) Paulsen
Born December 3, 1926 in Olathe, KS, passed away on July 13, 2017 in Olathe, KS.
Nadine was born to Allen Morris Eastland and Ruby Blanche (Dunham) Eastland. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1944, then was employed with Jetmore Toggs for five years, waitressing in the evenings for extra money.
Nadine met Bernard "Barney" Paulsen one evening during her time waitressing and offered him a nickel to go away, but that did not work. She later met and danced the night away with him, with Barney wearing his combat boots.
Nadine and Barney were married on September 28, 1946, and they were married for 65 years before Barney passed away on December 31, 2011.
After starting their family, Nadine began babysitting for friends and family. Shortly thereafter she began the venture of cake-making for friends, family and her community for almost 50 years, affectionately becoming known as the "Cake Lady". She was also able to assist her husband with his business, Barney's Floor Covering, throughout the years.
She is survived by her children; Dan Paulsen (Judy), Cindy Steele (Ed), Debby Beard (Dave), and Sherry Wagner (Rob),grandchildren; Shane, Christopher, David, Tyler, Jake, Matthew, Kimberly, and Nathan, great-grandchildren Alex, Ryan, Morgan and Lilly, her sisters Irene Peer, and Sue Pickell (Don). She was preceded in death by her son, Tim Paulsen, and her brothers "Shorty" Francis Eastland, Morris Eastland, Harold Eastland and Dale Eastland.
Prayers of the Rosary, Sunday, July 16 at 6:30pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, KS, with visitation to follow until 9:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, July 17 at 10:00am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Olathe. Burial, Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
