Myrtle Blake Mack Jeffries, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, KS. Blake was born in Atlanta, GA but spent her youth on the coast of South Carolina. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in bacteriology and worked in that field briefly before deciding to become a teacher. She earned a masters degree in Christian education at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. There she met her husband of 55 years, James Watt Jeffries. She served as a Director of Christian Education for several years before beginning her career of over 30 years as an elementary school teacher. She believed strongly in education and worked tirelessly to assure that her son and daughter achieved a quality education. After retiring from Montgomery County MD Public Schools, she moved to TN and then KS to be near family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Blake was a small woman with a great heart. Her extra spunk helped her overcome life-long health challenges. She was full of unconditional love and was always available to help anyone in need. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
Blake is survived by her husband, Watt, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Debbie Jeffries, daughter and son-in-law Ashley Jeffries and Bert Benton, and grandchildren Tracie and Alyssa Jeffries, and Blake, Jamie and Will Benton.
