Millie Zirger, 83, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Saturday, October 13 in Lenexa, KS.
Services will be held Saturday, October 20 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 9100 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66206 at 3:30 pm. A dessert reception and visitation will follow the service.
Millie was born to Myron A. and Ruth L. (Harrington) Powell in Topeka, KS. She graduated from Highland Park High School and continued her education at Washburn University, graduating with an AB degree in Home Economics.
While at Washburn she met Bill, her husband, and they lived in Topeka until 1980. In 1980, they relocated to the Kansas City, area where they lived in Olathe, Overland Park and Lenexa.
While in Topeka Millie, who was known as "Mrs. Millie," along with Bill, owned and operated Country Day Preschool until closing, in 1987.
Millie then worked for Steinmart in Overland Park for 17 years. After she left Steinmart, she joined her husband in their business, Creative Marketing Unlimited, until her death.
Millie was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha; a Past Matron of Beulah Chapter OES, #34, Topeka, ZONTA International, Washburn University Alumni Association, and the Kansas Federation of Republican Women.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, Lenexa, her daughter, Elizabeth Ruth (Liz) and son-in-law John Hochscheid, Overland Park. Her sister and brother-in law Marvie and Larry Sneegas and nieces and nephews, Elisa & Brian Berg, Brendan & Kristi Sneegas, Alison & Dave Borberg, Gwen Neal, Craig & Cathy Zirger, Cheri Zirger and Renee & Tom Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents Myron and Ruth Powell.
