Michael Armstrong Windes passed away March 31, 2022 from Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. He was born 74 years ago in Kansas City, MO to Harry and Dorothy Windes, the youngest of six children. Mike graduated from Southeast High School. He earned Biology BA and MA degrees from Graceland University in Lamoni, IA and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. He earned KS and MO Elementary and Secondary Administrative Degrees from UMKC. Mike worked in the Shawnee Mission School District for 21 years, the Ewing Kauffman Foundation and Center School District for 5 years each, and the Kansas City, KS School District for 9 years.
Mike married Suzette Fisher and they raised three daughters: Tiffany Brizendine (Jess) in Sun City, AZ; Megan Savage (Travis) in Thornton, CO; and Amanda Strom (Jeremy) of Stilwell, KS. Mike enjoyed his grandchildren Coleman, Anderson and Lewis Strom, Eli and Adalyn Savage and Christopher and Cameron Brizendine. He was a loving grandparent and proud father.
Mike was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. In college he and a friend founded Camp MITIOG for children with disabilities so they would have a summer camp experience. He supported Camp MITIOG for 50 years.
Mike married Nancy Kent. He added Jennifer, Mark, Austin, Madison and Emma Graffius of Casa Grande, AZ; and Andrew, Tarah, Ryan, Dylan and Blake Kent of Bucyrus, KS to the mix. In retirement Mike volunteered at the Heartland Therapeutic Riding for those with special needs. He gardened at home as well as the Overland Park Arboretum. He was always ready to play catch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother Robert Windes.
Mike is survived by his wife Nancy Windes, three daughters and their families, brothers Bill Windes (Jeanie) and Pat Windes (Robin), sisters Ramona Jablonski (Richard) and Maribeth Painter, sister-in-law Phyllis Windes, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 1PM and the memorial service is 2PM April 9 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe KS.
