Michael Terry McDanield, 51, of Overland Park, KS passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 3, 2014. Visitation will be held on Friday January 10, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home at 14275 S. Blackbob Rd Olathe, Ks 66062. A Celebration of his life will take place the following morning at 10AM, also at Penwell-Gabel, which will then be followed by his burial at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
Mike was born on December 17, 1962 to Wanda and Loran McDanield in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in nearby Overland Park, Ks, graduating from Shawnee Mission West High School. He graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts Design from Johnson County Community College. Mike spent 19 years with The Kansas City Star, as a graphic art designer in the advertising department. Mike expanded himself in a new field as a Software Engineer at Winntech and most recently at X-COM Systems/Bird Technologies. Mike enjoyed outdoor activities very much- hiking, canoeing (Ozark National Riverways) and especially biking. He inspired those around him by participating in the BikeMS fundraiser and other charitable biking events in recent years.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Wanda. He is survived by his father, Loran, Sister Pamela (Lee) Miller, Sister Dawn (Mike) Hall, Nieces, Nephews, Great-Niece –Nephews, Cousins and Very Special Friend, Dawn Guiser.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the MS Society of Greater Kansas City, American Diabetes Association, or any one of the many local No-Kill Animal Shelters.
