Michael Dennis George

March 26, 1961 — March 4, 2024

Michael Dennis George, 62, peacefully passed away on March 4th, 2024, at his home in Overland Park, KS. Michael was born on March 26,1961 in Olathe to Chris George, Sr and Neva Clevenger George. He was the ninth of twelve children. He attended St. Paul's Catholic School and graduated from Olathe High School in 1979. Mike began working for his father's construction company in his teens, then went on to work for Chris George Homes where he dedicated over 45 years. Mike's legacy will forever be remembered through his dedication and contributions to the custom home building industry. He poured his heart and soul into his work, leaving behind a lasting impact on all those he worked with.

Mike married Elizabeth Burger on April 24th, 1987. The two went on to build a beautiful life for themselves and their four children. Mike was a proud father, whose hardworking nature served as a guiding light for his children. His dedication to excellence inspired each of them to pursue their dreams relentlessly and never give up, no matter the obstacles they faced. Mike embodied true grit, and his resilience was a source of strength for his family.

Mike's spirit will live on through the cherished memories his children hold dear. His daughters will fondly remember his sense of humor, his love for America's Got Talent, and the unforgettable moments in the school carpool line when he would blast Earth, Wind & Fire (much to their embarrassment but also to their secret delight). His sons will carry on his legacy through his tireless work ethic, a trait instilled in them by their father's example. While the world may seem a little dimmer without Mike's presence, his love and influence will continue to shine brightly through the lives of his children.

Mike found immense joy in spoiling his granddaughter, Harper, with his time and attention. From building her an incredible playset from scratch to showering her with the most extraordinary gifts, he loved seeing her smile light up the room. Whether it was surprising her with a four-wheeler, a new bike, or even an actual harp, Mike's love for Harper knew no bounds.

It's hard to remember Mike without thinking of his beloved dog Earl. Earl was Mike's VIP, best friend, and star of Mike's Facebook page; many will remember Mike for his hilarious posts involving Earl's antics. Earl would accompany Mike in all his endeavors, from work every day to his son John's wedding in Colorado; Earl was there. Legend has it that if Earl wasn't allowed somewhere, Mike wasn't going.

Mike had a deep and abiding love for his brothers and sisters, holding them close to his heart throughout his life. From poker nights to large family gatherings and the family softball team, he treasured every opportunity to bond and create lasting memories with his siblings. A true family man, Mike's devotion to his brothers and sisters was evident in every aspect of his life, and he took great pride in being there for them through thick and thin.

Mike was also a devoted friend to many and known for always putting the needs of his loved ones above his own. He enjoyed the many laughs, lake trips, and minnow shots shared with those closest to him. His memory will forever be cherished by his many longtime friends.

Mike had a lifelong love of sports, whether he was participating or watching. He excelled on the softball field with the family team, the Gazelles, which was formed in 1976 and is still going strong 48 years later. He was a huge fan of KU Basketball, the Royals and Chiefs.

Mike also had an extraordinary talent for transforming ordinary pieces of wood into breathtaking works of art. Whether it was crafting a sign for his friend's bar, a plaque for his son's wedding, or a turkey for his daughters' elementary school art project; his creations were a testament to his artistic ability, patience, and meticulous attention to detail. Each piece he carved bore the imprint of his passion and dedication. Though he may no longer be with us in person, Mike's spirit lives on through the beautiful creations he leaves behind and the countless lives he touched with his brilliance and talent.

Mike is survived by his loving ex-wife, Elizabeth George, and their children, Eric, John (Abby), Emily, and Jamie; his cherished granddaughter, Harper; his brothers Dan George, Terry George, Paul George and David George; his sisters Cathy Fritz, Sharon Lang, Margaret Diviney and Linda McCoy; and his beloved dog, Earl. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris, Sr. and Neva George, and his siblings, Chris George, Jr, Tim George and Lori George.

In this time of grief, let us remember the joy and love that Mike brought into our lives. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
