Melvin Thonen

Melvin C. Thonen, 82, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully surrounded
by family on March 26, 2013.
Melvin was born in Powhattan, KS on September 29, 1930 to Jacob and
Rosa Wenger Thonen. He moved to Olathe in 1970. He spent the better
part of his working years as a custodian at Broadmoor Junior High School
in Overland Park, KS. He retired in 1993 and devoted his free time
to perfecting his bowling game and spending time with his
granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his sister Edna and brother Alvin. He is
survived by his children, Carol Thonen of Olathe and Greg Thonen of
Lenexa; granddaughters Taya and Anya Thonen, also of Olathe; brothers
Norman of Powhattan; Lawrence and sister Mavis Geiger, both of
Hiawatha, KS.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 30 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 at
Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, with
funeral services immediately following at 3:00 pm. Interment will be
held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 1, at the Powhattan Kansas Cemetery.
