Melvin Leon Knoche

October 18, 1942 — November 7, 2011

Melvin Knoche, 69, Bucyrus, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Olathe Hospice House.

Melvin was a life long area resident of the Stanley-Stilwell area. He was born Oct. 18, 1942 in Kenneth, Kansas to George and Helen Knoche (who preceded him in death). He graduated from Stanley High School in 1960 and join the U.S. Navy with his cousin LeRoy Young from 1962-1964. He served on the USS Intrepid and was very proud of recovering Astronaut Scott Carpenter during his tour. He worked many years as a laborer and carpenter until, due to his health, had to retire. He was a member of the Stanley Community Church and member and Past Master of Stanley Masonic Lodge #444.

His love of the outdoors, fishing and hunting, was passed on to his kids. Melvin was an avid story teller and loved telling a good joke. His sense of humor and love of life will be missed.

His home was always open to his kid's friends where many memories and happy times were shared.

He was also preceded in death by a son; John Lee Knoche, and a brother; Gary Lee Knoche.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marcia, his children; Patty Lou, Larry Dale, Kevin Dwayne, grandchildren; Kenny (Lisa) Johnson, Cheryl Johnson, Kaci and Parker John "Catfish" Knoche, Brittanie Nowell, and Savanah and Hunter Mitchell, two great-grandchildren; Tyler and Chloe Johnson. Brother and Sister; Don (Janet) Knoche, Susan (John) Ray, sister-in-law; Patty Knoche, mother-in-law; Lillian Shippy.

The family would like to thank Olathe Hospice (especially Anita) for the kind loving care over the past 6 months.

"To love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existence", and Melvin was loved by many. Rest in peace we love you and miss you.
