Melinda Davis

May 6, 1955 — April 25, 2016

Mindy Davis became whole again April 25, 2016, after a short but courageous battle with ALS.

Mindy was born on May 6, 1955 to George & Coral ("Corky") Landis. She grew up in Leawood, KS, and graduated from Shawnee Mission South in 1973. In 1976, she graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing and earned her RN license.

When, at the age of 15, Mindy's husband, Barry, told her, "You are going to marry me someday," she laughed at him. But at age 21, his prediction came true and she married him, her soul mate, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. They were blessed with two daughters, Kelly & Sally. By 2014, their family of 4 blossomed to a family of 11 with the additions of sons-in-law Andy & Eli and the births of 5 grandchildren--Grayson, Cooper, Claire, Griffin, and Reagan. Mindy treasured every moment she shared with her family and her family thought the world of their Mimi.

Her deep faith mixed with her stubbornness, humor and love sustained her throughout the challenges she faced, especially her ALS diagnosis. Mindy found joy in the simplest things & moments. She always considered her life and heart full and felt truly blessed. She strove to do something kind for someone each day and always put others' needs and desires before her own. Mindy was preceded in death by her husband, Barry, & her father, George K. Landis, M.D. She is survived by her mother Coral Landis; daughters, Kelly Rice (Andy) of Plano, TX & Sally Groesbeck (Eli) of Leawood, KS; grandchildren Grayson, Cooper & Claire Rice and Griffin & Reagan Groesbeck; brothers Dr. Ken Landis (Jane) and Gary Landis; sister Sheryl North (Benny Morentin); brother-in-law Steve Davis (Bonnie); many nieces & nephews along with their significant others & children; her beloved aunt, Nadine Kunz & too many cousins to count! Mindy cherished her family whether immediate or extended.

Per Mindy's wishes, she was cremated. Family and friends are invited to gather at noon with the memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
