Maxine Marie Johnston was born on February 6, 1931, to Hazel (Taylor) and Lester Smith in Chariton, Iowa. She passed away on January 1, 2019.
On October 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to John Robert Johnston and together they raised three children, Kay Marie, Barbara Ann, and John Lester in Chariton, Iowa.
Maxine was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chariton, Iowa, and Olathe, Kansas. She worked for the Chariton School District and the Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Chariton, Iowa. She enjoyed taking care of her family and doing volunteer work at the Nazarene Church.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Wilma Stites; and brother, Larry Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Robert Johnston; children, Kay (William) Morrison of Olathe, Kansas, Barbara (David) Najarian of Overland Park, Kansas, and John Lester Johnston of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Marvin (Dixie) Smith; grandchildren, John Benjamin (Stella) Johnston, Jacob (Tiffany) Johnston, Lisa (Remington) Taylor, and Rachel (T.J.) Gallagher; and great-grandchildren, Levi, Charlotte, and Hudson Johnston, Peter, Jude, and Xavier Johnston, and Lennon Gallagher.
The family will have a private service followed by burial in Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, IA.
