Maxine L. Cowles, 91, of Lenexa, KS, formerly of Williamsport, PA, passed away on August 28, 2019 at Greenwood Terrace Independent Living.
She was born on January 1, 1928 to George and Grace (Logue) Connor at Williamsport, PA. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1946.
On January 9, 1949, she married Clyde Cowles, of Houghton Lake, Michigan. They made their home in Williamsport, PA, where they raised their family, before moving to Columbia, South Carolina.
She taught Sunday School at Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was an avid reader and kept up with politics, insisting on voting even into her 90's.
She enjoyed crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, growing plants, looking after her grandchildren, and raising Chihuahua puppies.
Maxine is survived by her son, Peter D. (Ruth) Cowles of Olathe, Kansas, son Paul E. (Marilyn) Cowles of Columbia, South Carolina, and daughter, Penney L. Shaffer of Owings, Maryland. She has 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde, and her siblings.
A graveside service for family and relatives will be held at the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, PA. on Tuesday, September 3. Arrangements are being coordinated by Penwell-Gabel of Olathe, KS, and Sanders Mortuary in Williamsport, PA.
