Maureen Helen Konen

May 17, 1941 — March 4, 2023

Maureen Helen (McAlynn) Konen, 81, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Hospice House of Olathe.

Maureen was born and raised in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Eileen (Dowling) and the late George A. McAlynn. She attended Maria High School and graduated from Lindblom Tech High School. Maureen attended Wilson Jr. Community College and then Northwestern University to pursue a Journalism degree. While there, she worked as editor at the school paper and received high praises.

She worked in the office of a trucking company before starting a family and staying home for a few years. She moved to Connecticut for her husband Gene's job and lived there for a year. Gene then had to choose between Kansas City and Atlanta. Maureen had won a trip to Kansas City with Junior Achievement in high school and fell in love. They moved to Overland Park to raise their family. Maureen worked for years at United Super grocery store while growing her family to five children. She then worked in Customer Service at JCPenney and retired in the Bank Fraud Department after 29 years.

Maureen was a devoted wife, mother and Grandma to her "Perfect Ten" grandkids. She spent her retirement traveling, babysitting, volunteering, shopping and attending her grandkids events. Sewing costumes, donating supplies, running kids to events, she was up for it! She had a huge heart and left a lasting impression with everyone she met. She could tell stories like no other and had a fun-loving personality. Her smile lit up a room. She was incredibly smart and taught her five children and grandchildren unconditional love.

Mom, we love you so much! Our hearts are truly broken without you here. Your children and grandchildren will always remember you and keep your spirit alive. We will hold you in our hearts forever.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Gene L. Konen, her parents, and her brother, George "Sandy" McAlynn.

Survivors include her children Peggy Cloud (David) Olathe, KS, William Overland Park, KS, Michael (Jill) Olathe, KS, Kevin (Dustin), Overland Park, KS, and Kathleen Tamasi (Brian) Overland Park, KS, and her grandchildren Courtney, Katie, Andrew, Phoebe, Matthew, Annabelle, Jonathan, Anthony, Katelyn and Avery.
