Matthew Wesley Askins was born on May 23, 1984 in Mansfield, Ohio. He died on July 3, 2014 in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of thirty. He was loved by all who got to know him.
A compassionate youngster who loved people and animals, Matthew was surrounded by parents, four grandparents, a brother, good teachers, and a host of friends who loved to spend time with someone who was so relaxed.
As an adult, Matthew had no expectations of others; he had no overt or hidden agendas. He just loved and wanted to be loved. Matthew wanted to please.
He is survived by his parents, a brother, his brother's wife, his maternal grandparents, an aunt, two uncles, and cousins who loved him. He also had many dear friends he counted as family.
Sadly, Matthew's adult years were compromised by a debilitating mental illness. He was strong and courageous. For thirteen years, he valiantly fought for a life without depression. He fought, struggled, made progress, and experienced setbacks. He then fought some more.
Because he accepted the gift of salvation, offered to all (and only for that reason) he is now in the physical, conscious, eternal presence of the God the Father and Jesus the Son. Matthew is free . . . free indeed.
