Matthew Carbajal

October 8, 1966 — January 28, 2016

Matthew J. Carbajal, age 49, died in the loving arms of his family, in Olathe, KS, on Thursday January 28th, 2016. Born on October 8, 1966, in Kansas City, MO, Matthew, along with his twin brother, was the youngest of seven children of Guadalupe Carbajal and Estella Ramirez. He graduated from Westport High School and, early in his life, started building on his natural musical talent. As a singer, guitarist, composer and sound engineer, he used music to share his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He saw his life as one of service to God, to those he loved, and to people he met who were nurtured and mentored by him. Although his life ended all too soon after a six-month battle with stomach cancer, he leaves a legacy of love and service in the hearts of those who knew him well.

Whatever Matt did, he did whole-heartedly, putting his all into it. His life is an example of sacrificial love for others, most of all his family, to whom he was completely devoted. He married Karen Feeley in March 1998. They lived in Springhill, KS, where he was a dedicated husband and a loving father to their two daughters, Lexi and Rachael. He worked hard as sole proprietor of a cleaning company, supporting his growing family and earning the loyalty and trust of his clients. Just as he embraced his two daughters, he welcomed and became the adoring grandfather to his two precious granddaughters. He loved to sit on the floor to play dolls or Lego with his grandbabies. He participated in and led worship at his church family for 17 years.

In recent years, Matt returned to school, earning his sound recording certificate and a job offer from JCCC just before he was diagnosed. His fellow students enjoyed and gleaned wisdom from Matt's life stories and talent. He had a passion for putting the many songs in his head on paper and recording them. He enjoyed reaching out to young artists, mentoring them and recording their music - encouraging them to become all they could be.

Matt was always thinking of others first. You could always count on him to do what he said he would do. His passing leaves a huge void that will never be filled. We're comforted knowing that he knew how much he was loved. While we know he is now with our heavenly Father and at peace, we will miss him terribly. Matt used to say "I'll love you always". Matt, we will love you always.

A celebration of Matthew's life will be held on Saturday, February 6th, 2016 at 1:00 pm, at Olathe Bible Church in Olathe, Kansas. A catered meal will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the celebration service. Matthew is survived by his wife, Karen Carbajal; daughters Alexis Mueller and Rachael Feeley; granddaughters Autumn Mueller and Ahava Sheafer-Feeley; father, Guadalupe Carbajal; sisters Theresa Likins, Antoinette Ramirez, Lupe Stevens, Carol Carbajal, Rose Lysne, and Estella Carbajal; brothers Bob Carbajal and Mark Carbajal; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
