Mary Elizabeth Smith Satterfield

September 17, 1929 — September 3, 2022

Mary Elizabeth Smith Satterfield, age 92, passed peacefully away on September 3, 2022. Mary was born in Arkansas on September 17, 1929, to Boyd E. and Alla B. (nee Blankinship) Smith. She married Clifton E. Satterfield in February 1951.

Mary lived in many different states throughout her life, but Louisiana was always home, Bonita, Mer Rouge and Bastrop. Mary, the youngest of her siblings, was raised in Bonita along with her other siblings - Kenneth, Boyd, Jr., and Jean. Her parents and siblings preceded her in passing. She was a past member of the Eastern Star.

Mary raised four loving children, Douglas (Nancy), Philip (Cindy), Terri (Radi), and Paula (Sharon), who shall greatly miss her, as she was the most wonderful and kindhearted of moms. She was always there for her children and helped guide them into adulthood.

As they moved and traveled about the country (Cliff worked for the railroad), it was Mary that held the family together, gathering all the family's belongings, packing the car, loading up family pets, and driving her children to another new town. None liked moving; school, church and friends were left behind. But Mary would comfort her children with the idea that they were a close family, making them who they are today. Family was the most important thing for her, and she was right. Her passion in life was her family.

Mary's most wonderful characteristic, which made her so very special, is always putting others before herself. Mary was adored by her many friends, those from her church, and extended family members. Her Aunt Marie often said that Mary was her favorite niece, and she meant it. Mary also had a soft heart and compassion for animals, especially her pets. It seemed like the Satterfield family always had a dog and cat or two that kept them company.

She is survived by her spouse, Clifton, of over 70 years, her children, four grandchildren, Sean Satterfield (Ashley), Lee Satterfield, Randy Satterfield (Krystal), Audrey Nunn and six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A private interment will be held at The Woodlands Methodist Church, The Woodlands, Texas, where she and Cliff were dedicated members.
