Mary Lois (Fulton) Smith, 97, formerly of Liberal, KS, passed away on September 29, 2023 at Cedar Lake Village, Olathe, KS.

Mary Lois was born on December 25, 1925 in Garden City, KS. to Frederick Pierce Fulton and Ester Olive Meadows. She was a graduate of Deerfield High School, Deerfield, KS, and later from Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, in 1947, with a degree in Education. At Southwestern, she was a cellist in the orchestra, a member of the A Cappella Choir, was the Homecoming Queen, and voted as the Queen of May.

She married Jack E. Smith, of Kinsley, KS, in Deerfield on June 22, 1947. Jack and Mary Lois made their home in Meade, KS until 1953 when they moved to Liberal.

After raising her six children, Mary Lois worked as a school librarian, and later retired from the 1st National Bank, Liberal at the age of 78.
Mary Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal, and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Prestige Club at the First National Bank, and a past president of the Noon Kiwanis Club.

Her beloved children and grandchildren knew Mary Lois for her constant smile, incredible wit, and infectious giggle. She was a devoted mother and liked to participate in church activities, and enjoyed travel, Music Theater, football, and KU basketball.

Her husband, Jack; her parents; four siblings; a son, Donald Smith; and a daughter, Rhonda Mansell, preceded Mary Lois in death.

Mary Lois is survived by her son, Dr. David Smith (Linda) of Overland Park, KS; son, Doug Smith (Nancy) of Leawood, KS; daughter, Rebecca Kill (Jerry) of Creal Springs, IL; son, Darrel Smith (Patty) of Lee's Summit, MO; son-in-law Clayton Mansell of Liberal, KS; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Friends and family of Mary Lois are invited to join in a Celebration of Life reception at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal, KS on Saturday, November 4, from 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. All are welcome to come and share stories and memories of Mary Lois.
