Mary Josephine Nelson

Mary Josephine Nelson, 88, of Olathe KS passed away on September 27, 2019 at her home.

Mary was born September 27, 1931 in Wentworth, MO to Raymond and Hattie Miller.

Mary grew up on a farm and was the oldest of nine children. She was a supervisor for Western Electric for 28 years then retired to the Lake of the Ozarks, where she entertained many friends and family. In 1995 she then moved to Mesa, AZ. She worked at the Senior Center and was an avid bingo player.

Mary loved to read, cook, share her recipes, and to teach her grandchildren to cook. She also loved to play cards especially Pinochle. She loved to be surrounded by her family.

In 2016 she returned to the KC area with her beloved dog Cody.

Mary is survived by: Daughter Cheryl (Dan) Hallum of Olathe KS, Son Joseph (Candy) Svetlecic of Barling AR, Grandchildren Anna (Jason) Warren of Winterset IA, Shaun (Deanna) Svetlecic of Fort Worth TX, Amanda Svetlecic of West Des Moines IA, Michelle (Dennis) Kraus of Excelsior Springs MO, Anthony (Ashley) Hallum of Leavenworth KS, Nicole Portzen of Adrian MO, Adam (Brooke) Hallum of Olathe KS. Great grandchildren Ashlynn, Aric, Zoie, Carlie, Lily, Celena, Destiny, Hailey, Alexis, Shaun Jr., Aaron, Madisyn, Jayden, Alexandrya, Colton, Clayton, Mackenzie, JD, Taelyn. Great Great granddaughters MacKenna, Journee, Aspyn. Siblings: Louise Waldo, Johnny Miller, Dorothy Stewart, Linda Ferguson, Leroy Miller, Patricia Elbert, and Debbie Creed.

She was preceded in death by: Husband William Svetlecic, brother James Edward Miller, sister Doris Jean Miller, Son David Ray Svetlecic, Great grandson Aaron Wayne Warren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday October 8, 2019 from 10-11 AM at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, Kansas. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM, followed by graveside service at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
