Mary Louise (Martin) Harrell

May 26, 1935 — December 25, 2017

Mary Louise (Martin) Harrell, 82, born May 26, 1935 at Cairo IL, passed away at home in Kansas City, Kansas on December 25, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her parents Paul & Anna (Fischer) Martin of Cairo, IL, and brother, Bill Martin of Memphis, TN. She is survived by her husband, Samuel W. Harrell, sisters Joan Fisher (Don, deceased),and Helen Smith, her children Anna Hess (Marty), Terry Wilgus (Mitch) Deborah Chipps, David Harrell (Sarah), and Janet Jones (Charles, deceased), 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and 3 nephews.

She was born and raised in Cairo, IL, where she met and married Sam and embarked on a 62-year journey together. She supported Sam as a military wife and traveled with him and their children to California, Germany and Ft. Riley, KS, before retiring in 1974 at Manhattan, KS. They retired again in 1991 and moved to Mountain Home, AR, where they enjoyed 20 plus years of fishing, making new friends, and building a faithful relationship together at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

She loved to sew and quilt, for which she won a few prizes. But, reading was her favorite activity. She enjoyed learning new things and was so knowledgeable that dad would say "ask your mother, she knows everything"……which she did. As a volunteer, she assisted individuals in need of grocery shopping, checkbook balancing, companionship, etc.

In 2016, Mary and Sam moved to Kansas City to be with their children. She is loved deeply by all of us and we will miss her calm love and sense of humor.

Private family services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike #420, Rockville, MD 20850 or to your local Humane Society.
