Mary Lou(Laravea) Phillips Surrey

Mary Lou Surrey, 88, Lenexa, KS, made her transition on May 6, 2013, at the home of her daughter. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, at 2:30pm at Unity Church of Overland Park, 10300 Antioch, Overland Park, KS. Reception following at the church. Mary Lou was born October 29, 1924, to Lewis M. and Isabel N. Laravea in Tulsa, OK, and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1942. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps. in WWII. After the war, she met and married Ralph (Phil) Phillips, who died in 1982. In 1987 she married Herve Surrey until his death in 2007. She joined Unity Church of Overland Park in 1976 and was church secretary for a period of time. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister. Survivors include her children, Diana Phillips-Curtiss, and Stephen M. Phillips; four grandchildren, Patti Payne, Christa Payne, Shannon Podbielski and David Snowden; ten great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Church of Overland Park or the Century Club of Childrens Mercy Hospital.
