MARY ISABEL (SPANGLER) GILL
Mary Isabel (Spangler) Gill, 93, a long-time resident of Wichita, KS and most recently residing in Leawood, KS, passed June 9, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House with family members at her side.
Following cremation, her memorial service will be held at the Kansas Masonic Home Chapel in Wichita, KS at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 12. She is preceded by her parents, Edward and Vyra Spangler; sister, Catherine Burns; brother, Eugene Spangler; grandson, Eric Gaddie; and husband of 29 years, Hugh W. Gill, Jr. Surviving family include her four children, Hugh W. Gill, III, Christine Dutton, Galen Gaddie, Lesley Daniels, seven grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren.
Born November 16, 1920, in Wichita, Mary graduated from Wichita High School North and attended Wichita State University. In 1942 she married Hugh W. Gill, Jr. and was a homemaker, an accomplished home decorator, seamstress, avid hunter, and was a licensed private airplane pilot. Additionally, she was a national officer of Lambda Tau Delta philanthropic sorority and a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
While living in Wichita, Mary also worked outside the home for Brook's clothing store at Parklane, the Wichita State University Student Housing Department, and the family firm, The Gill Mortuary. The family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Heartspring (Wichita) and The Salvation Army.
