Mary Jo Guilfoyle (Overbey), 97 years old, died peacefully with her family by her side on March 4, 2017, the same day that her beloved husband, Pat Guilfoyle, died 26 years ago.
Mary Jo was born on Jan, 2, 1920, in Magnum, OK. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelors degree in English and went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Special Education from Kansas University in Lawrence. She retired in 1985 from the Shawnee Mission School District, where after becoming one of the first Special Ed teachers in the District, she taught for 30 years. Mary Jo and Pat married in 1946 in Mangum, OK, after Pat was released from his military service.
She is survived by her seven children, Matthew Guilfoyle, Thomas Guilfoyle, Patrick Guilfoyle, Nancy Griffin, Susan Kavanagh, Janet Bauer and Margaret Frey. She has 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Two of her grandchildren, Jennifer Guilfoyle and Brian Kavanagh preceded her in death.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS, where visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. and funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13.
