Mary Lee Burke

June 27, 1958 — December 16, 2023

Mary "Mare" Lee Burke, 65, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 27, 1958 in Hays, Kansas to Eugene and Normalee (Christie) Siler.

Mare spent her childhood in Hays, KS and graduated from Hays High School in 1976. While attending Fort Hays State University, Mare met and married her husband, Patrick, on January 26, 1978. Their son, Nick, was born later that year. After living in Russell, KS and Fort Morgan, CO, Patrick's job moved them to Coos Bay, OR. Mare loved living in the Pacific Northwest, especially watching the big storms come in from a cliff at Shore Acres State Park outside of Coos Bay, and kayaking the local rivers. Mare was an accomplished cook and avid reader. She could tackle any project she set her mind to; from tearing out walls to create new spaces, to any number of arts and crafts projects. She loved being surrounded by animals and rescued multiple cats and dogs. Most of all, Mare was kind, loving and giving. After Nick was grown, she worked at Coos Bay School District in the IT Department. When Mare moved to Lenexa, she was employed as a Forensic Researcher at Chickasaw Nation Industries.

Mare is survived by her husband, Patrick Burke, Coos Bay, OR; son, Nick (Camille Hook) Burke, Portland, OR; siblings, Sue (Grant) Sager, Olathe, KS, Tom (Cindy) Siler, St. Charles, MO, nieces, Jennifer (PJ) Johnson, Parkville, MO; Julie (Chris) White, Grain Valley, MO; and nephews, Frank Siler, Chris Siler, and Jack Siler, all from St Charles, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2023 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 15315 W 151st St, Olathe, KS 66062 at 1:00pm. Friends of Mare are welcome to greet her family following the services. Her ashes will be scattered on the coast of Oregon at a later date.
