Mary Genevieve Batten, 96, of Overland Park, KS passed away Tuesday February 23, 2016 at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, KS. Graveside Services will be 3PM Monday February 29th at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
Mary was born May 12, 1919 in Kansas City, MO to Donald and Mary Storms. She graduated from Redemptorist Elementary in 1934, Redemptorist High School in 1938, St. Teresa's Academy in 1940 and from Avila College with an Associate's Degree in Nutrition. Mary met the love of her life, Aubrey E. Batten, casually at a roller skating rink and, later, married him on September 18, 1946 after which they had 47 beautiful years together.
Mary loved working outdoors in her garden and was passionate about flowers, especially hybrid roses. She enjoyed feeding the local wildlife that visited her home and garden every day. Mary artfully crafted gorgeous quilts and needlework. Up into her later years she was able to sit and play the piano.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey Batten in 1993, her daughter Janice Anne in 1954, her son Mark Edward in1974, and her son Christopher John in 2008.
Mary is survived by daughter Mary Genevieve, son Steven Edward, daughter Catherine Marie, and daughter Janet Ann. As well as, Grandchildren Cynthia, Tina, Kerry, Jennifer, Stephanie, Blanca, Nicholas, Andy, Jamie, Ryan and Rachel. Additionally, Mary was blessed with 13 Great Grandchildren.
