Mary (Ann) McNerney Saxer Struewing, loving wife and mother died on January 14, 2006 at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd St., Olathe, KS. Interment to follow at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m., in the chapel of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to Catholic Charities, 333 W. Poplar, Olathe, KS 66061, or to the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Ann was born in Springfield, IL, the daughter of James G McNerney and Genevieve Meeker McNerney on December 28, 1939. Until 1998, she was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS, where she was active in the Saint Catherine's Circle, Women's Spiritual Group, Hospital Visitor, and RCIA. She was a hospital and nursing home visitor in IL, Ohio, and CA as well as a CCD teacher in those places for many years. She always wanted to be a golfer and played off and on for many years, lastly at Leawood South and Brookridge.
She was also active in civic and service organizations including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Children Home and Aid Society, Vermillion Council for Children with Learning Disabilities, Salvation Army, and served on the boards of Massillon Club, Brookside Country Club, and Danville Country Club. After moving to Kansas in 1984, she was active in New Neighbors League, Saint Joseph and Shawnee Mission Hospital Volunteer Program, and Birthright. In 1998, she joined the Prince of Peach Parish, Olathe, KS and worked in the church office, was a Eucharistic Minister, hospital visitor, and on Social Concerns.
In October 2000, she married John W. (Bill) Struewing. She had a strong belief in family, friends, and God. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and watch them play sports. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 41 years, John J Saxer Jr. in July of 1999, and her son Michael James Saxer in 1996.
She is survived by her husband John W. Struewing of the home; son, John J. Saxer III and wife, Susan, Overland Park, KS; daughters Diane M. White and husband Arthur of Red Wing, MN; Susan M. Saxer, Overland Park, KS; Jane M. Saxer, Lawrence, KS and eight treasured granddaughters Melissa, Amy, Christine, Julie, and Jennifer Saxer and Lauren, Allison, and Gabrielle White. Her love and care will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
