Martha I. McKay, 97, quietly passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 1, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center nursing home in Olathe, Kansas.
She was born on April 27, 1922 to Harry and Cloie (Cain) Stephens in Burlington, CO.
On February 28, 1942 she married Max McKay. Martha and Max lived most all of their lives together on farms near Eureka, Kansas and Shenandoah, Iowa. When Max passed away in 1997 they had been married 55 years.
Martha was a loving wife and mother to 3 children, and she loved making her home a refuge for her family and for many others. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday School for both adults and children for many years in her church, and also was a trusted friend and mentor to many. She led a Community Bible Study in Shenandoah and helped start the first Christian Women's Club there as well. Martha also worked for many years as a Telephone Operator for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Martha is survived by her loving daughter, Cheri and husband, David Wright; two sons, Jim and wife Fay; and Steve and wife Peggy; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Harry D. Stephens; Mother, Cloie C. Stephens; Brother, Paul Stephens; Sister, Eunice Moore; Sister, Marjorie Sheirbon; and Grandson, Matthew McKay.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Westbrooke Church (9777 Antioch Rd., Overland Park, KS) at 10:30am with family receiving at 9:30am.
Burial will take place at Polsley Cemetery near Shenandoah, Iowa.
