Martha Hare

February 25, 1924 — July 7, 2013

Martha Jean Hare, 89, passed away July 7, 2013. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the daughter of Aley Jefferson Hill and Amber Sage Hill. She was born on February 25, 1924, in Kansas City, KS. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1942. On June 24, 1949, she married Phillip DeVerne Hare. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 2001, shortly before Phillip passed away on December 15, 2001. She was also predeceased by her parents, her only sibling, Aley Jefferson Hill, Jr. and her infant son, Brian.

Martha and Phillip began their life together in Kansas City, KS. They raised three children. In 1978, Union Pacific Railroad transferred Phillip to Omaha, NE. In 1980, they retired and moved to their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. About 1995, they moved to Overland Park, KS, so that they could be closer to their children. After Phillip's death, Martha moved to Garden Villas of Lenexa.

Martha had a great love of family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the biggest cheerleader for everyone in the family. She was an outstanding pianist, and played many duets with her daughters. Martha was also known for her wonderful cooking. Everyone always looked forward to her meals. She even inspired her son to become a chef. Every time Martha baked anything, she was known to cut a corner piece out of the dessert to taste it. This is a tradition that her children have continued. Martha will always be blamed for the piece missing in the corner.

Besides her cooking, Martha was an avid golfer and bridge player. Phil and she would travel to be in various tournaments. At 70 years old, she couldn't find her ball and realized she got a hole-in-one. Her bridge talents were known to many. She played 3 to 4 times per week.

Martha will be remembered by her children Marti Powell (Al), Vicki Kippley (Dave), and Randy Hare (Pam). She will also be remembered by 8 grandchildren, Stefanie Eymar (Nico), Kerwin Miller (Katie), Phillip Hougham, Amanda Hougham, Melissa Kippley (Joe), Amy Kippley Cepada (Chris), Matthew Kippley, and Brett Kippley, and 6 great-grandchildren, Pablo, Arno, Waylen, Karley, Travis, and Blayke.
