Martha Jean Gelencher, Olathe, KS, went to the arms of Jesus on October 16, 2015, after a courageous battle with stage 4 brain cancer. Funeral services will be held at Lenexa Christian Center, at 11:00 am on October 20th. The family will meet with friends between 9:00 – 11:00 am.
Martha Jean Clymer Gelencher was born June 18, 1951, in Lancaster, PA to Elizabeth and Lloyd David Clymer. She graduated from Lancaster Conestoga High School and then from Zion Bible College in East Providence, Rhode Island. There is where she met and married Joseph Gelencher. From this marriage Martha was blessed with the most precious gift of her life; her daughter, Andrea Renee. The Gelenchers moved to Kansas living in the Ottawa area, where they established Corporate Building Services, a commercial /industrial cleaning business. The business grew and eventually took them to the Kansas City area.
Martha was a long time member of Ottawa First Assembly and Lenexa Christian Center. She faithfully served in children and youth ministries, bible studies, inner city and foreign missions. Martha's mission in life was to know and serve Jesus and to make Him known to everyone she met.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, David. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Lenihan and husband Thomas, Olathe; sisters Mary Mays, Flagstaff, Arizona and Dorcas Reynolds and husband Chris, of Pittman, New Jersey; her step-father, Jake Coleman and many nephews, nieces and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial contributions may be made to BE HEAD STRONG (Supporting Brain Tumor & Patients Caregivers) and to The Gideon Bibles.
