Martha Elizabeth Emmons Ross
October 5, 1922 - January 6, 2020
William Donald Ross
May 22,1923 to July 7, 2023
Martha and Don grew up near Manhattan, Kansas, graduated together from high school and married during World War II, December 24, 1943. As a couple for 76 years, it was their wish to be celebrated together in death. Both joined the WWII efforts: Don through Military Service in the Navy and Martha as an Electrician in the Oregon shipyards while Don was stationed overseas. After the War they pursued further education and family life. Moving from Topeka, Manhattan, Kansas City and then Wichita, Don worked as an Engineer, mostly for The Boeing Company. Martha took pride in her family of four children and her sewing and needlework. Together they were active in Mt Vernon Presbyterian Church, youth groups, Sunday school, women's projects, Girl Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 606. They made a difficult move from Wichita in 2012 leaving longtime friends and relationships. Both then enjoyed new friends and family while living in Lenexa and Overland Park as Seniors for 10 years.
Martha (97 yrs) passed away on January 6, 2020, and has looked over her family until she could be with Don again. Don passed away peacefully July 7, 2023, with his family by his side. Their memory is a treasure to be held by friends and family. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, they are survived by their children: Barbara Scott (Sun City West, Arizona), Virginia Dieffenbach (Overland Park, Kansas), Sharon (Jay) Caywood (Ozark, Missouri), William D Ross II (Colorado Springs, Colorado), 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Don's advice to himself on his 100th Birthday, "have fun playing with the kids" and he did. Remembered as a couple, Martha and Don will be interred together in a graveside service at Welcome Cemetery near Alta Vista, KS, September 30, 2023.
