Marjohrea M. (Hammer) Metz, 86, of Overland Park, KS passed away Monday April 16, 2012 at Overland Park Nursing and Rehab Center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Lenexa Christian Church, Lenexa, KS or the charity of your choice.
Marjohrea was born December 25, 1925 in Council Grove, KS to Earl and Marie Hammer. She attended most all her school years in Council Grove, except for her freshman and sophomore years she attended Wichita East High in Wichita, KS. In 1941 while in Wichita, she was in a group of eight that was 2nd in the United States for flag twirling a Soldiers Field in Chicago.
After graduating from Council Grove High School, in 1943. Marjohrea married Alvin D. Metz of Council Grove March 1, 1944 in a military wedding in Virginia Beach, VA. He was in the Coast Artillery. During the war she worked as a bookkeeper in Wichita, KS. She worked 8-5PM and 6-10PM every night as a volunteer Nurses Aid at Welsey Hospital in Wichita, KS. Later they moved to Topeka, KS where she graduated from Stewarts Beauty Academy in 1952. She moved to Overland Park, KS in 1961 where she has resided the last 51 years.
Marjohrea worked as a bookkeeper for JC Penny 18 years before her retirement in 1989. After retiring she worked part time at the Atriums, Overland Park, KS and last at the Shawnee Mission South High School. She was a member of the Lenexa Christian in Lenexa, KS and was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Marie Hammer and her sister Bonnie Manoles.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry D. Metz and wife Debbie of Branson, MO and Danny M. Metz and wife Chereene of Branson,MO and 1 granddaughter Ashley Marie Metz, two nephews Dennis Wasmund, of Olathe, KS and Donald Minter of Shawnee, KS.
