Marilyn Elise Walker

Marilyn Elise "Kitty" Walker, 91, of Olathe, Kansas, went to heaven on the morning of August 24, 2018 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County.
Marilyn was born on October 23, 1926 to Charlie "Claire" Wight and Helen W. (Bishop) Wight in Madison County, Iowa, near Winterset. At the age of 16, Marilyn began working as a clerk at Equitable Life Insurance in Des Moines, Iowa. It was an industry she would stick with, working her way through the ranks with her fast and accurate shorthand dictation and typewriting. Marilyn retired in 1991 as an executive secretary to the regional manager of Farmers Insurance Group in Overland Park, Kansas.
Marilyn wed John J. Walker on August 21, 1949 in Des Moines. John became an ordained Lutheran minister in 1953, and Marilyn took on all the duties of a pastor's wife, including working as the church secretary and organist as needed. Together they served congregations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.
Marilyn was active in the American Business Women's Association (ABWA), serving in many capacities within the Mo-Kan chapter. Marilyn had a love for travel and always had the next trip planned, whether it was to a timeshare in Branson or Palm Desert, a road trip with her son, Randy, a cruise through the Panama Canal or a trip to Egypt and the Middle East. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, liked anything purple, made outstanding Jell-O salads and had an uncanny ability to win March Madness brackets. Her sense of humor was loved by all.
Survivors include two children Randolph "Randy" John Walker of Lawrence, Kansas and Michelle Elise Ford and her husband Bob Ford of Olathe, Kansas; one granddaughter Madison Elise Ediger and her husband Jeremy Ediger of Overland Park, Kansas and one great-granddaughter, Avery Elise Ediger.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Walker.
The family will have a private service. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Olathe, Kansas.
