Marilyn S. Rogel (Anders), 63, of Olathe, KS passed away at home surrounded by family members on March 17, 2018.
Marilyn was born April 17, 1954 in Holden, MO to Norman and Velma Anders. She lived in Clinton, Sedalia, Warrensburg, Hutchinson, Wichita, Joplin, and Overland Park.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Garry Anders of Odessa, MO and her parents of Sedalia, MO. She is survived by her sister Karen Harris, husband Kenneth Rogel, daughter Kelly Selznick (Rogel), son-in-law Dennis Selznick, granddaughter Kaelyn Selznick, 12 cousins, 7 nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Growing up, Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her grandparents. She had fond memories of joining her brother on his newspaper route as a child and working at the local movie theater with her Dad in high school. As a child she was involved with Camp Fire Girls and played the piano for many years. She placed in piano competitions at the Missouri State Fair.
Marilyn graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1972. She lettered in instrumental music and placed in typing contests. She placed 3rd place at the Missouri State Typing production typing contest. She made the honor roll multiple times throughout her high school years.
Marilyn graduated from State Fair Community College. She made the Dean's list and was employed as a secretary at the college. She was also involved with a business organization, Phi Beta Lambda chapter.
Marilyn and Ken were married in Hutchinson in 1981. She became fluent in sign language and was a beautiful signer. Marilyn was an excellent advocator for her daughter, Kelly. She made sure her daughter had full access to education and language.
She worked for Pepsi Beverages in Olathe, Kansas. She enjoyed her work and would often refer to her coworkers as her "Pepsi Family."
Marilyn was known for her beautiful smile, kindness, and thoughtfulness. She was a second mother to many people throughout the years. One of her favorite things to do was spend time with family. She became a wonderful and loving Grandma to Kaelyn Hayley with whom she had a special relationship with.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 28th with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am at the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224).
