MARILYN WALRATH GOODRICH PETERSON
Marilyn Joan Peterson, age 76, passed away August 22, 2011 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, New York.
Marilyn was born April 3, 1935, daughter of Ruth and Leo Walrath, and raised in St. Johnsville, NY. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Geneseo State College and her Master's Degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She began her library career in Fonda, NY in 1957 and continued her career as a school librarian in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Florida and Kansas until her retirement in 1997.
Marilyn was married in 1957 to John Goodrich, who passed away in 1982. In 1987 she married James Peterson, who passed away in 2010. Marilyn and Jim made their home in Olathe, KS and Canada Lake, NY. In retirement they enjoyed international travel to 27 countries in Europe, South America and Asia, and they made numerous trips across North America in their RV, including visits to all fifty state capitol buildings.
She was active in the American Library Association, the Olathe NEA and Kansas NEA. She was also a member of the DAR, the DKG and the Beatrix Potter Society.
Marilyn is survived by her children Katherine (Michael) Thompson, Jack Goodrich, and Lorraine Goodrich; grandchildren Max and Sam Thompson, Lydia Goodrich, and Anna Goodrich; and her stepchildren Shirley Peterson, Tim (Christine) Peterson, David Peterson, and Jamie (Marlo) Peterson; grandchildren Michael Allen, Casey Grimm and Chelsey Allen, Paige Peterson and Peyton Peterson, and Dally Peterson and Carver Peterson. She is also survived by her brothers Philip Walrath (Patricia) and Allen Walrath (Nancy), her sister Elaine Herzog (Richard) and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a consummate library professional highly respected as a leader in her field. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Memorial Service will be held September 17, 2011 at 11 AM at the Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 Ridgeview Rd., Olathe, KS. Visitation will begin at 10 AM.
