Marilyn was born January 30, 1946 in Kansas City, KS to William and Genevieve Stambaugh. She attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Grade School, and went on to graduate from St. Joseph High School. She received her Bachelor of Music in Education from St. Mary's College in Leavenworth in 1967, and her Degree of Master of Religious Education from Loyola University, New Orleans in 1999.
Marilyn shared her love of music by teaching at St. Paul's and Prince of Peace Grade Schools, and serving as organist, liturgist, and choir director at St. Pauls Catholic Church for over 35 years. Her passion to glorify the Lord through her music was her life's calling.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Earnest Peterson, of Olathe, her children, Celina (Craig) Gerling of Olathe, Elise Peterson of Hays, KS, Mary Peterson of Edgerton, KS, Joseph Peterson of Olathe, and Andrew (Mary Beth) Peterson of Mt Vernon, MO. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia (John) Ward, Paula McLaughlin, Rebecca (Stan) Lloyd, and Anita (Bud) Wheeler, and her brothers Phillip (Beverly) Stambaugh, and James (Dara) Stambaugh, grandchildren Cortney, Cristin, Cara, and Kyle Gerling, and Alexis, Danielle, Nicole, and Brodi Gary. We rejoice that she has been reunited with her parents and her grand-daughter, Samantha Gary.
Her boundless spirit, love of life, and devotion to our Lord will be deeply missed by her family, and all those she touched through her ministry of music.
