Marilyn was born in Kansas City, MO to Leo and Viola Howard on July 1, 1939. She was a graduate of Lillis High School in 1957. She went on to earn a degree in Education from the University of Kansas in 1961. She worked as a teacher for 30+ years and retired from Prince of Peace Catholic School in Olathe, Kansas. She enjoyed spending her time with friends, family, and grandkids. She also loved cheering on the KC Royals and her beloved KU Jayhawks Basketball. Playing the piano, creative writing, and painting were some of her hobbies she enjoyed in her leisure time.
Marilyn created traditions that our family will always cherish. These traditions will be passed onto her grandchildren. During Easter, with all of the family gathered at her home, she would make this time of year special to everyone. The most memorable part is when Grandma would have flour paw prints and nibbled carrots from the Easter Bunny! The kids would scream with delight knowing that the Easter Bunny paid a visit! During Christmas her home knew no stranger as the mantel would be full of stockings! This last Christmas the mantel was overflowing with a total of twenty-one stockings one for everyone in the family.

Through these traditions we learned many important life lessons from Marilyn which are able to guide us through our life's journey. We will always have time for family and cherish the times that we are able to spend together at the dinner table or during a holiday. We know that life is not valued by the material items you get but about the memories which are created with your family all gathered around.

Marilyn, as the matriarch of our family, will be greatly missed. Our family was blessed that God gave us one final week with her knowing that she would soon be called home to her eternal life in Heaven. As a family we were able to laugh, sing and remember the good times. Through all of the laughter and tears we were able to hold her hand give her one last hug and one final kiss.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Viola Howard, husband Robert F DeBrine Jr., brother David Howard, and grandchildren Jackson DeBrine and Emily DeBrine.

Marilyn is survived by her brother Robert Howard, sister Jacqueline O'Malley, sister-in-law Patricia Howard, Son Robert H. DeBrine and Daughters Suzanne Brey, Jeanette Curtin and Denise Klobe, grandchildren Austin DeBrine, Natalie and Michael Brey, Michael and Madison Curtin, Genevieve, Christian, Kennedy and Maddox Klobe. Along with her daughter and sons in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, because of Marilyn's passion for helping and educating children along with her grandson's battle against cancer, memorial donations may be made to Children's Mercy Pediatric Cancer, 2401 Gilham, Kansas City, MO 64108.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Olathe Medical Center, Rehab Resort of Olathe, and Kansas City Hospice for their support in her final days.
