Marie Ann Wicke, 86, of Olathe, passed away on May 23, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family members.
She was born on September 4, 1937 to Orie and Eva (Verdier) Haigh In Osawatomie, Ks. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1955, then went on to attend Baker University for 2 years where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
On July 14, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred Wicke. While Fred was in Navy Flight Training, she continued her college education by attending Texas A&I, San Diego State, and then returning to Baker University to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education in 1964.
Marie enjoyed her 30 year career as an Elementary School Teacher for Overland Park and Olathe school districts, retiring in 1994. After retirement, she served as co-chair of Seniors Serving Schools.
She was very active in many activities including various card games, boating, Bible Study, neighborhood gatherings, and golf. She also worked with several philanthropy groups such as PEO, DAR, Service League, Alpha Chi Omega, and various children education programs.
Marie is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Fred, daughter Kim Southern (Rob), son Brian Wicke, grandchildren Taryn, Kara, Christian, Whitney, Tyler, Kaylee, Anthony, Matthew, seven great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Tamara Hood, sister, Eleanor Manly, and brother, Robert Haigh.
