Marie Valeria (Vodila) Monks, 92, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center in Olathe, KS. She was born on September 5, 1931, in McKeesport, PA, to Nickolas and Elizabeth (Antal) Vodila. She was the youngest of 6 children and the only girl.
While working as a teletype agent at TWA in Pittsburgh, she met Rudolph "Rudy" Raymond Monks, who also worked at TWA. They married on April 25, 1953, in McKeesport, PA. They moved to Overland Park, Kansas, in 1968 where they raised their 4 children. In 1993, Rudy and Marie moved to Peoria, Arizona to enjoy retirement.
Marie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, USA Council of Serra International, and a devout member of the Catholic Church. She taught CCD and was heavily involved with the Catholic Youth Organization. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, games, baking, and shared a hobby with Rudy in painting hand-made wooden decor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers John, Bill, Barney, George, and Nick.
Survivors include sons Gerry (Marie) Monks, and Dan Monks; two daughters, Andrea (Jim) Rauch, and Michele (Rick) Gramling. She had 13 grandchildren, Nick, Sean, Sarah, Zach, Brody, Josh, Keri, Ian, Adam, Marina, Tristan, Braden, and Jensen, and 5 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Paige, Cole, Emma, Mariana.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 105th and Holmes, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
