Mari McElyea, 67, of Kansas City, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. She was born February 26, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Aubrey and Alcia Keel, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mari was employed by Sugar Creek Elementary School. She was also an ARIA certified riding instructor who, in her younger years, completed the horse masters program in England. During her time as a riding instructor, she introduced many kids and adults to a lifetime love of horses.
Mari was an active 4-H volunteer for many years, a member of her local equestrian community, and the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international medieval recreation group which encouraged her love of Mongolian clothing and culture.
Mari enjoyed the companionship of her horses and cats, archery, and introducing people to the SCA. She is survived by her daughter Tara Delahoy, son-in-law Nigel Delahoy, and many beloved friends.
A celebration of Mari's life will be held at a future date when the plague, as she called it, has died down. Please check back for details.
