MARGARETTE MAXINE EVANS
Margarette Maxine Evans, 83, Olathe, Kansas passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in Olathe. We celebrate the life of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at First Baptist Church, 2024 E. 151st, Olathe. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:30 p.m. on Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Margarette was born June 20, 1922 in Gentryville, Missouri. She was a graduate of Albany High School and received her Bachelors of Science in Education from William Jewell College and taught 28 years in the Kansas City, Kansas School District before retiring.
Margarette was an active member of First Baptist Church in Olathe (20 years) where she was involved with the American Baptist Womens Ministries, mission advocate service. She was also a co-pastor with her husband in the Senior Ministries which included the Young at Heart and Serendipity programs. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, flower gardening, time at the lake, bird watching, traveling, and the joy of her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elza R. Sweat and Margaret R. Allenbrand Sweat; son-in laws, Kenneth Crowl, Jr. and Thomas Rowe; and a brother-in-law, Busch Meredith.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, Rev. Christopher A. Evans of Lenexa, KS; sister, Charlene Meredith of Olathe, KS; children, Margaret Evans of New York, NY, Cheryl Evans-Rowe of Lenexa, KS, Janet L. Crowl of Topeka, KS, and Dale and wife Jenice Evans of Blairstown, MO, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
